Jessners  This is a medium depth peel most beneficial for those with extensive damages, problematic and cystic acne. It is not recommended for overly dry types or pigmented skin*. *If you have melasma, are heavily pigmented, darker skinned or have a tan, we suggest you first treat the pigment with a bleaching/fading gel prior to peel usage.

Important Contraindications of Chemical Peels   You should not have a chemical peel if you will continue to have excessive sun exposure. Active Herpes Simplex (have a doctor prescribe Zovirax for you), Warts, history of Keloidal scarring, Any type of recent facial surgical procedures. You should not have a chemical peel if you've used Accutane in the last year (it will increase your chances of scarring), or if you are pregnant or lactating or have an aspirin allergy! If you have any auto immune diseases, prior peel sensitivities, sebhorrehic dermatitis, collagen disease, atopics, eczema (et. Al.), have had any recent radioactive or Chemotherapy treatments - have sunburn, windburn or broken skin or have recently waxed or have recently used a depilatory such as Nair or use Vaniqua.

Preparing for Your Chemical Peel  For the best results, you should follow a skin care regimen which may include the use of AHAs, Retin A, Kojic Acid, Alpha Arbutin, etc. to prepare your skin’s surface, and even out the skin tone itself. *EX- Serum 15 and Vitamin C Complex daily. This will make the peel more effective and will make your skin less likely you hyper-pigment. * Make sure you have a supply of SPF (100% uva & uvb) to protect your skin before and after the peel. A minimum of 25 is required.

Helping your skin to heal  After your peel it will be important to moisturize your skin with a quality, healing ointment. We recommend Emu oil mixed with Copper Serum, Bacitracin, or another comparable product. 

After your peel 

·          Your skin will feel as though you have a sunburn. It may be pink-red and feel tight. Use a gentle cleanser 1-2x per day (do not scrub your skin), pat dry and apply a moisturizing ointment. (Emu +CP). DO NOT EVER tug on ANY skin that is peeling from your face (even if it is just hanging there).  You can cause excessive damage resulting in severe scarring if you tear off a piece that is still attached at the end. *Most people will start to flake between days 2-4 and will finish in 6-7 days.

o        1^st day – Pink/red depending on how many layers of solution applied. Slightly tight.

o        2^nd day – Red/brownish coloring, a bit tighter feeling.

o        3^rd day – Dry, leathery appearance. A bit of cracking/peeling around most active areas of face (mouth, chin, nose).

o        4^th + day – Darker brown where skin has not peeled. Pink areas where skin has peeled. Very uneven texture (make up will not be able to cover).

USAGE
The Jessners solution should be applied no more than:

·          1 layers   = 1x every 2-3 weeks.

·          2-3 layers  = 1x every 4-5 weeks. *This method is recommended in a professional setting only.

*Always perform a patch test 24 hours prior to application to test for sensitivity.

Warning to client: Your skin condition and overall health are the biggest factors in determining if you are a good candidate for a Jessners peel. Step by step Jessners instructions

ü      READ entire front page for precautions and warnings!

ü      The day before the peel, apply a test patch to check for irritation.

ü      Cleanse the skin with a deep cleanser.

ü      Apply a degreaser such as Isopropyl Alcohol to defatt/prime the skin.

ü      If you wish - protect fingers with a glove or finger cot.

ü      Apply Vaseline to any areas you do not want to solution to peel. (AVOID eyes, lips, inside of nostrils or any other sensitive areas).

ü      Pour a small amount of solution into medicine cup (provided).

ü      Dip ½ of a 2” cotton pad into the solution and gently rub excess off on inside rim. Hold the dry ½  of the cotton pad with your fingers.

ü      Make sure cotton is not dripping, and gently apply to the skin swiping each area to be treated 1 time. *Do not repeatedly rub solution on any one area.  A 2^nd layer may be applied after 2 minutes to treat problem areas – if necessary. *You will feel stinging at this point – this is normal and may be quite intense. You may fan yourself to help relieve the burning.

a.    Leave on 1-2 minutes *(you may build-up to 3-5 minutes as your tolerance increases).

b.    If you are an advanced peeler, you may now apply up to 3 layers for a deeper peel. Apply solution, wait 1-2 minutes for the skin to coagulate (frosting may be apparent), apply next layer. *Only add on 1 extra layer at a time per treatment. Take the process slow. It should take you several applications before you get to 3 layers! 

ü      The peel is complete when the skin has “Frosted” (turned a white color).

ü      Apply refrigerated Neutralizer solution to a cotton pad and cover face liberally. You may splash your face with cool water to neutralize, but this generally causes the peel to get “hot” again.

ü      Apply a thin layer of healing ointment.

ü       If you are to venture outdoors – apply a sunblock of at least SPF 30. Continue to apply this daily.
