Preventing Skin Aging | Wrinkles | Pigmentation

Genetics are a big factor in skin aging: Look at your parents and you can pretty much guess how your own skin will look at their age. Unless, of course, they have had cosmetic surgery and fillers and all that expensive stuff. OR, you can take care of your skin starting as early as possible in life to prevent the lines, wrinkles, spots and discoloration that normally occur as skin ages.

As we get older, our skin gets thinner, drier and less elastic. Expressions of surprise, or emotions that cause you to frown--all contribute to large facial muscle movements, and those grooves create lines and wrinkles that eventually become permanent.

The forehead is one of the first places that wrinkles show up because the large muscles there are very active --think how often you raise your eyebrows for expression! If you squint from smiling or smoking, the first place you'll see lines will likely be around the eyes--those dreaded crows feet. Smokers also get creases around the lips, not only from constantly pursing the lips, but because tobacco reduces the blood supply to the skin (as well as harming so many different parts of our body).

But the biggest reason aging skin gets discoloration and spots and wrinkles? THE SUN! In fact, more than anything, sun damage contributes to lines and wrinkles. And the effects are cumulative, so the sunbathing you did when younger is going to show up eventually--but it is never too late to stop and even reverse some of the damage. Better late than never--you will also reduce your risk for getting skin cancer.

Now--how to prevent wrinkles? We do NOT suggest that you stop making normal expressions, of course, but do use a sunscreen, like the Cotz products, and use everyday--even on cloudy days because ambient light will get to you just like bright sunlight will.

And how to reverse some of the damage you have and help prevent future aging? Use melanin inhibitors 2x per day and keep using that sunscreen, and if you are early on in your aging process, add in the use of a good Retinol cream or serum. Start with the lowest strength and as your skin adapts to the product (about three months), you can increase the strength.

A great way to help treat those pesky lip wrinkles is with a TCA peel and powerful peptides. See the Lip Peel Intense Restoration Kit to work on those.

If you want to improve discoloration and fine lines (and skin tone, texture and dewiness) you will need to start using at-home peels. Using mild to strong peels can drastically improve your skin and even help prevent skin cancer, and using them at home can save you a ton of money. If you are completely new to this process, please call Platinum Skincare for a free consultation or take this instant Quiz here.

You might also want to consider Botoxtm injections, which work very well. At the hand of a skilled dermatologist or plastic surgeon, you won't experience that dreaded "frozen look;" instead, Botoxtm can remove or greatly reduce the appearance of wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes and prevent new ones from developing.

There are also neuro-peptides available that will help to slow the muscle contractions (this is not a frozen or injected look) over several months time. This will give you a smoother look to your skin, and may even help you to avoid injections. But, if you are ready they are definitely a great option that are safe and have been used for decades.
