GABA Where For Art Thou? Shall I Ingest or Shall I Apply?

Gamma-Amino Butyric acid (GABA) is an amino acid which acts as a neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. It inhibits nerve transmission in the brain, calming nervous activity.

As a supplement it is sold and promoted for these neurotransmitter effects as a natural tranquilizer. Yes, one of my favorite topicals will also help your body to feel more relaxed! People take GABA regularly to help with their brain function, for anxiety and also stress. So, if you are dealing with these, then take a closer look at GABA for health reasons. You can find supplements at most vitamin shops.

Now, what about another factor caused by stress and anxiety - LINES on your face from constant scrunching, tensing and squincing. *I made that one up. LOL. All those exaggerated facial movements cause wrinkles to form. Now obviously everyone has lines WHILE they are making facial movements. These are called Dynamic wrinkles. They are perfectly normal and expected. As your skin moves, folds/lines occur. When you stop moving the lines go away.

But what happens when those lines are sticking around? Yes, after making said lines for 30 years or so, they tend to remain even after the movement has stopped and the face is relaxed. When lines are on your face during inactivity, those are called Static wrinkles. Those are the ones that we are going to talk about here.

In order for those lines to fade back a bit. Smooth and get softer, we need to:

  • Relax those areas with neuropeptides. Examples of those are, of course GABA. Gamma-Amino Butyric Acid is pretty well known after Dr. Oz aired the Book Of 40 and the Pseudoephedrine Swirl a few years back. But did you know there are many others, like Leuphasyl, and Syn-Ake and Snap8. All of these are capable of topically slowing muscle contractions. Once the contractions slow down their intensity, the static lines fade back and become less noticeable. Is this the same as a Botox(tm) injection? No, but you will see positive changes within a couple of months and save hundreds or even thousands of dollars in the process.

  • Protect our skin from UV damages.
These break down our collagen and elastin fibers. To protect them we need to use antioxidants such as Retinol, and other super ingredients like: Lipogard and Pepha-protect. These ingredients protect our skin when they are used daily. A daily sunblock is also a must. UV damages go very deep into the skin and UV damages show up as lines. Take a look below and see where your sun bathing is taking you. YIKES.

  • Stimulate collagen and elastin growth as well as cellular turnover by using Retinol every evening. As your skin gently exfoliates from the vitamin A it goes into a "hyper regerative" phase. Your skin's outermost layer (stratum corneum) will turn over more quickly. This is excellent for those with acne, since those stubborn red marks will go away very quickly. Quick like a week or so instead of months on end. As the skin regenerates you are left with smooth, new fresh skin as your outer layer. Gorgeously reflective and healthy. *No, not shiny.
