Chemical Peel vs Facelift: What's Actually Worth Your Money
Your tissues are falling underneath. You've got your layer of skin. Underneath that skin is what they're moving around, you know, as our muscle tissues fall and they pull them back, suture them into place.
And then when they lay that skin over, there's usually extra skin because everything's been falling. Now when it's back in place, yeah, they can cut some extra skin off, but that skin that's there is the same skin you had, whether you've got marks on it, scars, rough uneven texture, it's all there. So your facelift can look a thousand times better if you've been doing, like, a series of peels, TCA peels, you've been needling, you've been doing all that. You're going to have a much better result.
Fun, exciting topic today: peels or facelift, or both.
Or both.
Or just one.
I mean, as we know, there are many, many celebrities out there who are very open about, you know, their procedures.
Thank goodness.
And some of them are wonderful. They look supernatural. And I think that's the goal, right?
I think so. You know, I think the goal is not to look like a different person, right? You know, you want to look like yourself, but younger, more refreshed. I think we're all open to that. And I think, you know, as you get older- I'm going to say in your late forties, early fifties- I think that's the big time that, you know, our age that most people reach out and look into facelifts. I know I've looked into it myself. It's this very scary step, but, you know, there are things, and I don't think it's one or the other, right? You know, and I've tried to talk about this in other videos and other things like that. Like it's not just about you getting a facelift and all of a sudden, like you look great. You know, your skin is your skin.
True.
So you have got to take care of your skin.
Oh yeah.
No matter what. And if you want your surgeon to really love you and you want to be one of their star works of art, when they're all done, you have to have good skin.
You do.
You know what I mean? You've got to spend the time you don't; don't give up your peels. Don't give up your needling or your lasers or whatever you get done. I think that you have to do it all because, you know, facelifts aren't really about your skin at all.
It's more about muscles, right?
It's, it's your, your tissues are falling underneath. You've got your layer of skin underneath; that skin is what they're moving around, you know, as your muscle tissues fall and they pull them back, suture them into place. And then when they lay that skin over, there's usually extra skin because everything's been falling. Now, when it's back in place, yeah, they can cut some extra skin off, but that skin that's there is the same skin you had, whether you've got marks on it, scars, rough, uneven texture, it's all there. So your facelift can look a thousand times better. If you've been doing, like, a series of peels, TCA peels, you've been needling, you've been doing all that. You're going to have a much better result. And I think it's this, you know, there are so many of them in the news right now. And I love the fact that they're finally being a little bit more open.
Yes.
Because it used to always, I feel like it was always a secret, you know, oh, this is just how my skin looks. I've never had anything done. And we're all like, yes, you have. You're just not admitting it.
There's only so much healthy eating, skincare, and exercise can do; as we said, gravity is working against us.
And we, we know this because, you know, we deal with people all the time, but like, oh, I want to, you know, if I do this, you know, will I, will it fix this? You know, we're looking at that picture, and I'm seeing, like, the skin hanging, and it's like, we're going to stimulate collagen. We're going to stimulate elastin. Your skin's going to be tighter and smoother and healthier, but we can't get rid of excess skin. That is a surgical procedure, and there's nothing wrong with it. And I love the fact that, you know, like Kris Jenner, right? Like, I think she's kind of at the top of the news right now. She looks wonderful. And you know, she has beautiful skin. Yeah, there she is. She's had beautiful skin to begin with. I guarantee you, she took care of her skin. She probably got, you know, laser treatments, and I'm sure, you know, I don't know what she got done. She got a lot done. I'm sure she's been taking care of her skin for years, so that when she went and had that treatment done, her, her facelift done.
Yeah.
Now look how wonderful she looks. I mean, she looks like she's 20 years younger. And what a beautiful result.
Her neck, her, the tightness in her face.
Oh gosh.
Very, very nice.
It's wonderful.
That is a very nice, refreshed face.
It sure is. And I love being able to see stuff like that. And you know, and she's not the, she's not the only one. There's a, there are a few people out there.
How old is Kris Jenner?
70. It says she's 70.
Wowee. Yeah.
Well, geez. I mean, I want to look like that when I'm 70. She looks better than I look now. You know, when I'm only 55.
Exactly.
And you've got some that are just a smidge younger.
Denise.
Denise Richards.
Yes.
Yeah. She also has an amazing, amazing facelift. I don't know exactly her age either. I think she's probably around our age. Um, like gorgeous.
Yeah. I'm going to say mid-fifties, I would say.
Let's see. I think he's going to look it up real quick.
55.
55. So she's our age.
Exactly.
And you know, the same issues that, you know, that I know that I'm having with, you know, the sides right here, that's just your muscle tissue falling. You move that right back into place. And all of a sudden, you know, you have taken away 15, 20 years. And it's going to last a long time too. I love that she was very forthcoming with her surgery as well. I just love that they're doing that now instead of just hiding it.
She still looks like her.
She looks exactly like herself.
Like dial it back maybe 10 years. You know what I'm saying? She still looks like her, just nice and refreshed, tighter. Um, you know, as you said, you can see that gravity working around this area and the neck.
Of course. And now she's just stunning. She was always stunning.
Absolutely.
And it's not about, you know, yeah, it is a little bit about fighting your age and fighting everything you can. I mean, some people don't want to fight, and that's okay.
Right.
You know, age gracefully. I feel like even if you do have plastic surgery, even if you are doing things, I feel like you still are aging gracefully. You're just, you're aging too. I think we feel like we live longer nowadays. Our health is better. We're taking our supplements, and we're doing everything we can to feel good. And then all of a sudden you look in the mirror, and you're like, oh, you know, like I, I felt like I was 30 until I looked in the mirror and now I realize, yeah, I am in my fifties.
Right.
You know, and I think like…
'Cause we still do feel young. Like I don't feel like I'm in my mid-fifties.
I do not feel like I'm in my fifties at all. If you were to ask me, I'm 29, times, whatever.
Right. Look at my parents. I felt like they always looked old, even in pictures from years past. And I thought about that one day, like, well, I'm sure they didn't have collagen supplements. And I mean, they had some makeup lines and skincare lines.
Yeah.
But not like today…
Not like we do now.
No
No. I mean, I'm sure, you know, back in the day, I know I remember my mom being on a tretinoin prescription when I was, I think, a teenager or so. So I know that was something retinoids were always around. I remember her being on tretinoin. So that's one thing, but I don't know of really a lot of other things. Other than that, it was like, I don't want to mention names, but like the little pink bottle at the store, there were like the square pink bottles, like oil of, oh…
Yeah.
As everybody would get, I know I had a bottle, and I don't even know if there was anything in there other than just some; there was probably nothing anti-aging at all. It was just a moisturizer. You use your cold cream and your moisturizer and maybe tretinoin. Like, that's, that was all you had.
Correct.
And then back then the face lifts were very, very different than they are today. Back then it was just the skin. They would just take that skin and just pull it back. Like, you look like you went through a wind tunnel, and then after a while your skin would slouch back down again because it can't keep holding these muscles back. Nowadays we do like the SMEZ and the deep plane, where they're going below the skin, down, down, where all your muscles need to be pulled back in. And now you've got results that can last. Your skin isn't tight. You know, you're looking beautiful. What did you say the other one was? Bunny.
Oh yeah. I just saw a reel of hers recently where she was going in for her facelift, and she literally had her phone in there taking pictures, and her face was all marked up.
Yes. And again, she's gorgeous to begin with. And then just being so forthcoming with what she's doing. I think that really speaks volumes, you know, to all of us out there because it's not like a facelift is a hurdle that you can't- like, the average person can get a facelift, right? They don't all cost $350,000. You know, you can probably find one for, you know, five, $10,000. It really depends on where you live. But they are attainable for most people.
And you know, we do get calls from clients all the time preparing for a facelift.
Yeah. And that's obviously our main thing to talk about here.
Yeah. So they will say, you know, listen, I've been, you know, doing this. How long before my facelift should I stop doing my peels? Like, you know what I mean? They're trying to get an inkling. They want to do it up until then because they want their skin to look nice and refreshed. And then they want to know the next question is: as soon as I'm finished with my facelift, when can I start on things to help with the scars?
Right. Yeah. Because scars are inevitable.
Yes.
And I believe, you know, depending on where you're getting it, but they're definitely going to be, like, either around the ear area, inside the ear, around the back of the ear.
They try to be sneaky.
Things like that.
They really do try to put it in there. And I believe for the most part, they heal really, really nicely.
Yes.
Yeah. But, you know, just like we can handle any other scars, I feel like copper is great.
Sure. Yeah.
Emu oil is also wonderful during the healing process. I know my husband's aunt; she had a very long skin graft removed on her arms years back. And she used just the emu oil for her healing. Emu oil has some natural anti-scar properties. And she healed so wonderfully that her surgeon was like, what did you put on here? And she was like, just emu oil. And he's like, that's amazing. I'm going to tell people to use that.
That's awesome.
Because that works so well, and then I would tell them, copper. And a lot of times they want to, like, jump into peels, and I'm like, you don't really want to jump into peels right after you had surgery. Right? I mean, even that surgery itself, you're not going to know your results for, you know, six months, even a year later, when everything is perfectly settled. So the last thing I want you to do is, when your scars are red or just barely healed, do an acid peel or use an acid at all. Like, I don't want you to do that. I want you to, yes, use some copper peptides, use some emu oil, PDRN, exosomes, epidermal growth factor, all of those things, super healing, good for your tissue regeneration. I think that is the very best thing you could do. And then, you know, when the, when the swelling's down and when your doctor says it's okay, you know, depends on, you know, what if he had an under-eye thing or, you know, as soon as your doctor says it's okay, then you can go ahead and get back on your regimen.
Correct.
But I think, you know, again, the most important thing is that you are on a regimen and you are doing things regularly.
Yes.
You know, whether you're going to get a facelift or not, you must be taking care of your skin because, you know, like the big point that I was kind of trying to make at the beginning is your skin is your skin that doesn't change because they cut some of it off. Now you're going to be stuck with the same skin you walked into the office with.
Right.
Unless while you're under there, maybe they do a laser treatment on you. Maybe they do a TCA peel on you because doctors have been known to do that. And probably on the, on the people that really haven't taken good care of their skin because they're just trying to make this the best facelift possible.
So what if this isn't for you? Okay.
Yeah. What if you don't want them?
What if you don't want to do that? Somebody is like you or me; they're in their mid-fifties, you know, we're fighting it with everything we can do. We're doing the laser masks at night, the soleus masks, and we're doing some needling, mixed with some peels.
TCA. I think TCA is the big, big hitter, right? You know, TCA has been around for decades. This has been used. This shows it will help stimulate new collagen in the skin, elasticity, and glycosaminoglycans; as we age, our skin gets drier.
Yes.
Glycosaminoglycans are your skin's natural moisturizing factors. So, stimulating more of those.
Yes.
Good for you. Um, obviously needling, like we have the Alchemy, um, micro infusion set with the exosomes and the PDRN. I mean, I think that's fabulous. And just the, just the process of needling itself obviously creates a wound in the skin, just like TCA peels do. They create wounds; they force the skin to generate and make new collagen. I mean, literally, it's called collagen induction therapy; that's what needling is. So, well, that's going to help your skin, and that's going to tighten things and stimulate as much as humanly possible. Like, so those big treatments, I feel like, are really important as we age. I mean, you shouldn't shy away from those.
Sure.
I know. Maybe, maybe it's new to you. Maybe you never heard of a peel. Maybe you never heard of needling, but it's a, it's a step that you should take.
And it's a bit of a process because it takes some time.
It takes some learning.
And your collagen will stimulate for months after.
For sure.
So if you are doing a consecutive series of, say, TCA peels or alternating your TCA peels with a needling treatment, if you are doing, say, a series of six to eight consecutive treatments spaced out between, you know, six, eight weeks apart, um, take that before picture.
Oh yeah. I suggest taking a picture every single month.
Yeah.
And we have our new app that's just kind of released in better right now, but there are a lot of people that are using it right now. And it really kind of prompts you to take pictures. Like, there are just so many places where you can take a picture; there's a camera, take a picture. It's going to remind you to take pictures when you're ready to do your next treatment: take your picture, take a picture again, and get a nice little gallery. And they're all dated. So you can really see how your skin is progressing. Keep track of that. If you don't have the app, of course, just take those photos and have them on your phone because you can just look and just see how things are changing because things are definitely going to change.
Yes.
And you know, as for normal products, obviously those play a part too, like retinoids, I think, are key. Like we have our Fusion A, which is hugely important. If you're already on a prescription, or tretinoin or whatever, perfect. You know, adapalene- there are just so many different versions, prescriptions- and none of them are of the utmost importance. Try to get, you know, the strongest one that your skin tolerates. Well, sure. You know, it doesn't do you super good to be using something that's just barely functioning. Maybe it doesn't even have a percentage on the label. Make sure it's something like ours: 0.15, 0.25, 0.35, 0.55. Those are important. Tretinoin is sold the same way. 0.025, 0.05, 0.1 is the max. And you know, it is important to work your way up. Of course, using things, just other things like a daily, kind of what we always suggest for a good regimen, as a good prep regimen, whether you're getting, going to get a facelift or you're not going to get a facelift.
Absolutely.
You want to use acids every day to exfoliate that dead skin and make your skin turn over. So I think the easiest way is to use an acid cleanser. Or you could use an acid toner. You could use an acid serum. I suggest if you're doing acid serums, maybe alternate that at night. Do your retinoid one night, your acid serum the next night.
Because sometimes using them on the same day is a little too much for most people. You know, use things like DNA repair enzymes to help stop further damage.
Secret agent.
So that's all your antioxidants. So, like, kind of like DNA repair enzymes and antioxidants, those are kind of hand in hand. Those are like preventatives, things that are fixing problems every single day. So that's going to help your skin look better.
Yeah.
And then, like peptides, you know, we have all these anti-aging peptides that stimulate collagen, stimulate elastin, help your fat cells expand, fill in areas. I mean, like we have our Dr. Platinum potions line; I think peptides are hugely important. The copper.
Yes.
Like what we mentioned for healing scars, but it's also very anti-aging because it's a tissue remodeler. Our skin is our tissue. We want to remodel that. And obviously, you know, just moisturize, use your SPF. I think that's hugely important. Never forget that, you know, UV rays are, you know, they cause a very large percentage of the damage in our skin.
And not only pigmentation, but it will cause other things.
Oh, yeah.
I mean, skin cancers and, you know, things you want to avoid if you possibly can; you know, it's not just like smoking. Yeah. Smoking ages you, but so does being out in the sun without SPF. You know, you're going to look like you've spent all your life in the sun.
And let's be honest, if you are, you know, exfoliating your skin, any of the products that you are using topically are going to penetrate better because if you have a lot of dead skin built up, it's kind of just sitting.
It's almost like blocking it. And you're just like, your goal is to just wash your face with some sort of alkaline soap bar in your shower and then slap on a moisturizer. You're doing absolutely nothing for your skin. That doesn't help your skin in any way, shape, or form. All you are doing is moisturizing the layers of dead skin sitting on your face.
Got it.
That's why, just like throwing in that acid just a couple of weeks after using an acid cleanser, your skin will feel different, smoother. And I think that's an easy way to get started on your journey. But…
I think so too.
Whether you're having a facelift or getting a laser treatment done, or, like, CO2 lasers, there are just so many different things that you can get done now that aren't necessarily going under for surgery. But at the end of the day, you still need your basic skin care.
Right. So basically it's not peel or facelift.
No, it's peel and facelift. Peel and facelift. Needling and facelift. You need to do them all. I'm always, I'm a huge proponent of doing it all.
Yes.
Rotate it. Do what you got to do. Keep your skin guessing and, you know, do everything that you can.
Great advice.
To keep yourself looking as, you know, young as you feel. We don't have to look like Golden Girls. Right? I laugh because I was just thinking, like, when you look at The Golden Girls, they're, in their, in their thing, their characters. I want to say the one who plays her mom, the older one, she's only like 55 or something.
Oh, Sophia.
In this show, Sophia. Yeah. She, maybe she's 60. I can't remember how old she was. She's young.
Yeah.
The one that, I think Blanche, the one that does Blanche, I think she's only like 40-something.
Stop.
Yeah. They look, they look so much older than we do now. Okay. Okay. So Dorothy's 54. So she's younger there than I am now.
She was playing a 63-year-old.
Yeah. Blanche is 53, or she already was, so she was 51.
Rose was our age, and she was playing Betty, or Betty, Betty White was 55. 63.
63.
But playing a 55-year-old.
But just like, I don't know. It's so different. Like, I guess my point was like, we don't have to look like we're on The Golden Girls, you know, back in the eighties and stuff. Like, we can look like.
That's why my mom and dad always looked older.
We look like Cher. Like Cher. What is she? She's 80-something, and she looks like.
I love that.
Like, she doesn't have a wrinkle, but I mean, we can do this. You know, it doesn't have to be; we can do it with our skincare. We can do it with our needling. We can do it with our peels, and we can do it with a facelift.
Absolutely.
But those are hysterical. You can even see pictures of them if they do them with, like, hair, hairstyles, and dressing as, like, nowadays, you'll see, like, Golden Girls, what they would look like now.
Sex in the city is the same thing. That's right. Cause that's like the new age.
Yes. The new..
And look how wonderful they look.
Because you know, my mom always had, like, really short hair, and they had that.
It was just short and curled under.
It was very aging-looking. It was very, very different age.
Yeah. So, I mean, you can embrace your age and still look the very best that you possibly can.
I mean, it just gives you more self-confidence, makes you love life a little bit more. I think it's important. Whatever you want to do, do something.
Yeah.
Doesn't have to be a facelift. Do a peel, do some needling, but at least have your regimen set. And if you know, if you need help creating a regimen, obviously we have a regimen builder tool on our website. We have our appeal finder tool on the website if you want to start there. But if you have questions, you can reach us at 1-800-917-3155.
You can email us at support@platinumskincare.com.
Yep. And you can also visit us if you're on social media- our Facebook, Platinum Skincare Gurus- and you can join that group and see tens of thousands of other people that are kind of, you know, in the same realm as you.
Yeah. Perfect. We'll see you soon.
All right.
